If you are a senior in high school, you’re probably dealing with the stress that comes with not just applying to college, but also paying for it. Fortunately, there are several scholarship opportunities that you, as a Key Club member in the Carolinas District, can take advantage of and use to make affording a college education a little easier.
There are three scholarships that will be awarded this year:
Kiwanis International Foundation/Carolinas District Foundation Matching Funds Scholarship – This is a one-time award worth $1,000. Up to three scholarships will be awarded.
Robert F. Goodwin Scholarship – This is a one-time award worth $1,000. One scholarship will be awarded.
Carolinas District Kiwanis Past Lt. Governors/Carolinas District Foundation Matching Funds Scholarship - This is a one-time award worth $1,000. Up to two scholarships will be awarded.
A scholarship committee composed of Kiwanians or adult community leaders will evaluate all portions of the application and select the recipients. The one-time cash award will come in the form of a check issued to the college or university the student plans to attend, and will usually be disbursed no later than August this year.
To be eligible to apply, you must have been an active Key Club member for two years, have paid dues for 2013-2014 and appear on the Key Club International Roster, have a GPA of at least a “B” average (or equivalent of a 3.0 on a 4.0 scale), have completed at least 100 service hours in your Key Club career, and you must be a college-bound senior. The application requires you to describe your Key Club and extracurricular activities (including service hours), submit two recommendation letters, and write a brief essay about a Key Club service project that has impacted you. The application must have the necessary signatures and MUST be POSTMARKED by March 10, 2014.
Do not miss these excellent opportunities!
