This summer, the Carolinas took Washington, D.C. by storm for the 2013 Key Club International Convention. The Carolinas District had quite a showing with the second largest group present - nearly 90 strong!
The tour started with two full days of theme park fun as we traveled from King’s Dominion to Busch Gardens in Virginia. The rain seemed to stop just as we arrived, and we took full advantage of the weather while we raced through the roller coasters and rides. Before heading into Washington, D.C., we had the pleasure of touring the historical home of George Washington at Mt. Vernon.
Driving into our nation’s capital, we stopped to help the Kids Against Hunger “D.C. Million Meals Pack.” Along with other districts, we helped pack over one million meals to send to malnourished children in the D.C. area and Haiti. We also participated in an illuminated night tour of the major D.C. monuments that evening before heading to the convention hotel. Key Club International Convention activities began the following day with the opportunity to participate in workshops, seminars, and attend caucuses to meet International office candidates. The Carolinas got to mix and mingle with Key Club members from all over the United States and the world. Other highlights from convention included Fourth of July fireworks, two Key Club dances, and extensive free time to explore Washington, D.C. by the metro.
All of this was wrapped into one exciting week for the Carolinas. Make sure to check out the links to photos on the Carolinas Facebook page!
Hope to see you next summer as we head to Anaheim, California for International Convention 2014. See you there!
