During the first weekend in November, members of the Kiwanis Family gathered in Black Mountain, North Carolina for the annual Kiwanis Family Conference. The Carolinas District welcomed Kiwanis members, Circle K members, and Key Club members from all over the United States to the YMCA Blue Ridge Assembly Center for a packed weekend of Kiwanis Family bonding.
The weekend started with an opening session and "family time," where each attendee met his or her activity group for the duration of the conference. Every group included members from Kiwanis, Circle K, and Key Club. The families worked to create skits, mascots, team cheers, and a great dynamic among themselves. Each family also competed in games and relay races on Saturday morning and before the dance on Friday evening.
Following family time on Saturday, attendees had the privilege of listening to several speakers, including past Kiwanis International presidents and trustees. They also heard from our Carolinas District Kiwanis International Trustee, the Circle K International President, and our very own Key Club International President, Raeford Penny, during a conference session. Saturday afternoon offered hours of free time, allowing attendees to hike the nearby mountain, enjoy the fantastic views on the Assembly property, relax with a treat from the onsite Starbucks, or venture into Black Mountain and Asheville. The day ended with a brief closing session and another exciting dance.
Sunday morning, everyone gathered their things and said goodbye to new Kiwanis Family friends before heading home. It was a memorable weekend for all that will not be forgotten anytime soon. If you couldn't join us this year, make sure to register for Kiwanis Family Conference 2014!
